Saturday, June 8th: Rosemont Preserve 1st Anniversary Celebration!

It's been a year since the purchase of the Rosemont Preserve and we've been busy! With a lot of help from the community we are celebrating the opening of our first trail and the first anniversary of this natural open space.

Join us for refreshments and a fun time out on the beautiful Rosemont Preserve. You can take a tour of the property, visit our kids' activity table and even buy a Rosemont Preserve t-shirt.

Schedule of Activities
9:30am Gate open
10:00am Presentation
10:15am - 12:30pm Docent-led tours (Please wear sturdy shoes, long sleeves and long pants)

We ask that all attendees park at Two Strike Park (5107 Rosemont Avenue) and walk from there to the Preserve, located at the top of Rosemont Avenue.

Saturday, May 11th: Rosemont Restoration Day

Our next habitat restoration day at the Rosemont Preserve in La Crescenta will be on Saturday, May 11th, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. We will be working on eradicating some recurring arundo and tree tobacco. *Rain Cancels*

Wear sturdy shoes, comfortable work clothes and garden gloves (long pants and sleeves are recommended.) If you have any of the following tools, please consider bringing them: shovels, spades, loppers, hatchets, clippers. Other tools and equipment will be provided.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park (click here for a map).

This event is free to the public. All ages are welcomed. No reservations are required.

Saturday, May 4th, Sierra Club visits Rosemont Preserve

This Saturday, May 4th, the Sierra Club will be bringing volunteers to the Rosemont Preserve to take a tour of the Preserve and then clean and weed the area from the gate to in front of the K-rails. They will also be removing some recurrent tree tobacco on the property.

This event is part of "Big Sunday" which is an annual committee service event. Anyone who is interested in getting more information on the event can access the website through this link: bigsunday.org.

Saturday, April 20th: Rosemont Restoration Day

Our next habitat restoration day at the Rosemont Preserve in La Crescenta will be on Saturday, April 20th, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. We will be working on non-native plant eradication and hosting a boy scout group which will be establishing our first trail. *Rain Cancels*

Wear sturdy shoes, comfortable work clothes and garden gloves (long pants and sleeves are recommended.) If you have any of the following tools, please consider bringing them: shovels, spades, loppers, hatchets, clippers. Other tools and equipment will be provided.

Please join us on Sunday, Dec. 9, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. as we continue to restore habitat at the Rosemont Preserve. We'll be removing invasive plant species to allow room for the native flora to re-establish itself.

AFC Restoration Workshop Saturday, Dec. 8

The Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy is holding the first in a series of workshops on habitat restoration on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Assistance League of Pasadena. Join AFC and several guest speakers as we discuss the management of wilderness land on the urban edge.

AFC is hosting these workshops in order to foster a discussion about habitat restoration issues, and to help set a course for AFC’s own land management practices. The following topics will be covered during the Dec. 8 workshop: fire-safe landscapes and working in wildlands; fire ecology and methods for sustainable fire-hazard reduction; invasive species; restoration / preservation of species diversity.

Saturday, Nov. 24: Hike Millard

The public is invited to explore seldom-visited lower Millard Canyon on an AFC docent-led hike on Nov. 24 at 9 a.m. Hikers will meet at the Millard campground parking lot. The hike will proceed down Millard Creek to Canyon Crest, where hikers will be shuttled back to the parking lot.

The route is less than a mile and a half, but somewhat rugged with some boulder hopping, so wear hiking boots. Wear a long-sleeved shirt and pants because there are patches of poison oak, and watch for rattlesnakes. Bring water. The hike itself will take 1-1/2 to 2 hours. This is not a hike for dogs. No reservations required.

DIRECTIONS: Drive north on Fair Oaks. Turn left on West Loma Alta Drive. Turn right at Chaney Trail, the third intersection you’ll pass. Follow Chaney Trail all the way to the Millard campground parking lot.

Rosemont Restoration Day: Saturday, Nov. 24

Please join us on Saturday, Nov. 24, from 10 a.m. to noon as we restore habitat at the newly established Rosemont Preserve. Get a few hours of fresh mountain air -- and a chance to work off that Thanksgiving meal!

Native plant expert Roger Klemm will be leading us in the first of many habitat restoration sessions. We will focus on identifying and removing invasive plant species to allow room for the native flora to re-establish itself.

Wear sturdy shoes, comfortable work clothes and garden gloves (long pants and sleeves are recommended.) Please bring a shovel if you have one; other specialized plant removal equipment will be provided.
