Join AFC and several guest speakers as we discuss the management of wilderness land on the urban edge.<br />&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <br />AFC is hosting these workshops in order to foster a discussion about habitat restoration issues, and to help set a course for AFC&rsquo;s own land management practices. The following topics will be covered during the Dec. 8 workshop: fire-safe landscapes and working in wildlands; fire ecology and methods for sustainable fire-hazard reduction; invasive species; restoration / preservation of species diversity.</p>

<p>The public is invited to explore seldom-visited lower Millard Canyon on an AFC docent-led hike on Nov. 24 at 9 a.m. Hikers will meet at the Millard campground parking lot. The hike will proceed down Millard Creek to Canyon Crest, where hikers will be shuttled back to the parking lot.<br /><br />The route is less than a mile and a half, but somewhat rugged with some boulder hopping, so wear hiking boots. Wear a long-sleeved shirt and pants because there are patches of poison oak, and watch for rattlesnakes. Bring water. The hike itself will take 1-1/2 to 2 hours. This is not a hike for dogs. No reservations required.<br /><br /><strong>DIRECTIONS</strong>: Drive north on Fair Oaks. Turn left on West Loma Alta Drive. Turn right at Chaney Trail, the third intersection you&rsquo;ll pass.
