The Emerald Horseshoe trail system would begin at the confluence of the Arroyo Seco and the Los Angeles River in east Los Angeles. Winding northeast through South Pasadena and Pasadena, the Arroyo Seco is a major drainage valley from the San Gabriel Mountains that has become a system of parks and open space, surrounded by urban development. It features 22 miles of trails, and is a popular destination for walkers, joggers, equestrians, and archers, among other groups.
As it passes through the Arroyo Seco, the envisioned Emerald Horseshoe trail system would connect various cultural resources, such as the Ernest E. Debs Regional Park, Lower Arroyo Park, Arroyo Park, Brookside Park, the Rose Bowl, and Hahamongna Watershed Park. It would meet the Altadena Crest Trail to the north.
